The best part of Despicable Me - the minions! Done by request. Yellow ones on the fingers and two purple ones (from Despicable Me 2) on the thumbs.
This blog is a skewed representation of my life based on the art on my fingers.
These are my natural nails and all designs are hand painted. All images are the property of me.

Remembrance Day 2013
Remembrance Day nails. Red and white poppies on the left hand. On the right hand a representation of Tyne Cot Cemetery with crosses instead of the Commonwealth War Graves (because crosses were easier). On the thumb just "Lest We Forget" buried in poppies.
Halloween 2013
Nails for Halloween this year. Treehouse of Horror nails with representatives from the first 10 episodes.
On the right hand - Bart as the Raven, Homer after being turned into a Jack-in-the-box, the Krusty Doll when evil (that's bad), and Lunchlady Doris from "Nightmare Cafeteria". (Seasons 2-6)
On the left hand - Groundskeeper Willie burning (from Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace), Hugo, the Fly on Bart's body, Maggie as fathered by Kang, and Lisa as Clobber Girl. (Seasons 7-11)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Also by request, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles nails on the right hand. Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, and Michaelangelo, with Splinter on the pinky finger.
On the left hand the trees changing colours, from the green of summer to the bare branches of winter.

2013/14 Bayern Nails
Done in the second week of September, new Bayern nails for the new season. The standby classic on the thumbs, partial crests. On the fingers of the right hand edelweiss flowers. Symbolic of Bayern hopefully continuing to climb to new heights and prove themselves again this season. Or because I had that song from Sound of Music stuck in my head. On the left hand "mia san mia".
Angry Birds
Evidently I've been very remiss in updating these. These were completed near the end of August. Angry Bird nails. The pigs on the left hand (don't mind the streak of pen through ones nose) and a selection of birds on the other. Done as a request.

Under the Sea
After moving and some unpacking I finally got around to doing a new set of nails. Under the Sea is the theme. I thought of doing Little Mermaid nails but went a bit simpler. On the right hand a crab, some fish, an oyster shell, a seahorse, and some seaweed. On the left an octopus, a moray eel between some rocks, a treasure chest, jellyfish, and some coral.

Canada Day/First Day of the Somme
Getting ready for Canada Day with some Canadian nails. On the left hand "Eh?" which I do say quite a lot, and two maple leafs on the flanks. On the right hand our national animal, the beaver, on every nail. The one on the middle finger looks a bit angry, unintentionally, and the one on the index a bit quizzical. The pictures in the background are proposed flags for Canada before the adoption of the current.
And since Canada Day also falls on Newfoundland's Memorial Day, forget-me-nots atop part of a Union Jack on the thumbs to commemorate the first day in the battle of the Somme during the Great War.

Sailor Moon
As per the last suggestion given to me, a throwback to my childhood (even though I intend to re-watch the series), Sailor Moon nails.
On the right hand the inner scouts. Sailor Moon on the thumb; Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter on the fingers. I think Mercury turned out the best. On the left hand the outer scouts and Tuxedo Mask; Sailors Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto. As per usual they did not turn out quite as nicely as my right hand.
Finally, because it seemed a shame to forget the cats, I have Luna and Artemis peeking out over my toes.

Bees and Ladybugs
I was quite lazy when I did these so they're nothing very impressive. Just ladybugs and bumblebees on the right hand and stripes in matching colours on the left. My roommate made a good suggestion for nails, which are being worked on now, but it was late and I was tired so simple summer insects and stripes it was.

Super Mario (1, 2, & 3)
Based on a friend's suggestion, Super Mario Bros. nails. Since the only ones I played as a kid were on the first Nintendo, these are taken from Super Mario 1, 2, & 3. On the left hand, from Super Mario 1, Bowser and the Goombas. Question mark "boxes" on the pinkies.
On the right hand, Mario (3) on the thumb, Princess Toadstool/Peach (3), a mushroom, and Luigi (2). I now wish I still had a working old Nintendo.

Spider-Man and Venom
It has taken me quite some time to upload these, they were done in the last week or so of April. Spider-Man and Venom nails. They were done as part of a Spider-Man themed birthday thing I had going on. I do really like the Venom's on the ring fingers, their teeth turned out quite fun, in my humble opinion. I'm in the process of doing my new nails now (after about 2 weeks of just plain red) so it should not take me as long to update next round.

Vimy Ridge and Bayern
For the anniversary of Vimy Ridge I just did Vimy thumbnails. On the left hand a Maple Leaf with the year, 1917. On the right a maple leaf and two poppies to commemorate the battle. On the fingers for the second leg of the Champions League, the Bayern logo in just white lines on blue and red, and a blue and red argyle on the left hand.
The Duke and Bayern
For the first round of Bayern in the quarter finals Bayern nails on the left fingers. The rest of my nails were devoted to my favourite pub, the Duke. The "McMurdo's" part of McMurdo's Lane, a simplified sign with "The Duke" on the right thumb, and a miniature Duke of Duckworth on the left thumb.

Oz the Great and Powerful
The night before I went to see Oz: The Great and Powerful, I did Oz nails. On the left hand was just a simple design of the wizard's balloon and yellow brick tips on the fingers. The right hand has the Emerald City on the thumb (complete with a yellow brick road leading to it). On the fingers are a flying monkey, "Oz" in gold lettering, the Wicked Witch of the West, and a poppy (from the poppy fields). I'll have to do proper Wizard of Oz nails in the future.

Round of 16 and Rrroll Up
Rrroll Up the Rim to Win and Bayern's first leg against Arsenal in the Champions League fell within a day of each other so these are double duty nails. Rrroll up thumbs (for rolling) with little coffee cups. On the left fingers is one of Bayern's mottos (Mia san mia = we are who we are) and a heart. On the right hand is the crest done in red and white with a bit of blue sparkle to decrease the contrast.

Valentines
Just simple nails for Valentines Day. Hearts on the right hand with a bow on the thumb and all bows on the left hand. These were a bit of a filler nail between the Futurama nails and the next ones that should be posted tomorrow. I love the bows though, simple but pretty adorable.

Futurama
Now is the time to get back on track and it'll start with Futurama nails! I received some jewels for nails for Christmas and decided to try them out on the pinkies. I was going for a 'stars in the milky way' look but did not have much beginners luck placing them and they turned more into 'randomly placed shiny gems on a purple background'.
On the right hand Nibbler, Fry, Bender and Leela. On the left, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, Hermes Conrad (with a brain slug) and Amy Wong.

Catching Up
I had done Christmas nails. On the right hand were little penguins and snowmen peeking out from the top of the nail. On the left was a line of Christmas lights and snowflakes. They had to be touched up the same day, I thought they were dry, they thought differently. Then I just put off uploading them. By the time they were coming off I decided, now I must upload them. And realized I never took a picture. For the first time since I started this blog I forgot to capture them.
These ones, with the orange background, I did for the World Juniors. At least the right hand. Canada didn't win a medal, maybe they were unlucky. On the left hand I tried out that newspaper technique. It smudged a bit but I think that will be eliminated with practice. Just to recap, this involves 1. Paint your nails a light colour. 2. Cut small strips of newspaper print, 1 for each nail. 3. Dip your nails, 1 at a time, into rubbing alcohol (or vodka) for a couple seconds. 4. Press on the newspaper and hold for 5 seconds. 5. Cover with a clear topcoat to seal in the newspaper words. I think they're really cute.
I went on a trip after the World Juniors and had intended to do something complex, but working late the night before and catching a flight at 6 in the morning meant that when I would've been doing my nails the prior day, I was packing. But I got the "mini collection" of candy coloured nail polish for Xmas and decided to just do a multicolour. I added the darker shade on the tip just for interest, they looked a bit bland without.
And now, this blog is all caught up.
